Philosophy of Science

Modelling of complex systems always has to deal with contingent and principle limitations in knowledge and computational power. This implies that even when modelling only a detail of the plethora of material and non-material fluxes generated by energy supply and demand, any model is unable to resolve all the processes involved. This is well recognized in the literature.  A major focus of EET thus will be on the uncertainties, both in  the parameters and  in the model conceptualisation itself.  Thereby we do not strive only for minimizing uncertainties, but also ask how to deal with inevitable uncertainties in model predictions when those predictions are used in decision making.
