Advanced Gesture Analysis

Advanced Gesture AnalysisBuilding on the introductory gesture analysis course held last semester, this advanced seminar allows participants to go into greater depth regarding both theory and analysis of coverbal gestures. Special attention will be paid to the particular mediality of gestures, a dynamic visuo-spatial medium, and to how gestures exploit space for meaningful communication. We will carefully analyze a variety of discourse genres based on both video and motion capture data collected in the Natural Media Lab at HumTec.

Participants need to be willing to read substantial texts in English, drawing on the latest insights from the growing field of interdisciplinary gesture research. The data to be analyzed will be mostly in German und English.
