Natural Media now part of CLARIN network

The Natural Media & Engineering group is now a part of the German section of the CLARIN (Common Language Resources and Technology) network that aims to provide linguistic data, tools and services in an integrated, interoperable and scalable infrastructure for the social sciences and humanities
The working group "Speech and other Modalities" - coordinated by Prof. Stefan Kopp (Bielefeld) - addresses the challenges of building corpora that contain speech and other paraverbal or nonverbal modalities (intonation, amplitude, gesture, facial expression, body posture, etc.). Multimodal data corpora need to capture the specific features of the different modalities and, in addition, need to make explicit the important intermodal structures and relationships.
