Position
Mareike Smolka is Assistant Professor (tenure-track) at Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands and research fellow in the field of activity Collaborative Innovation at the Human Technology Center. She participates in the Cluster4Future NeuroSys, in which she contributes to the responsible governance of an innovation ecosystem emerging around the development of neuromorphic hardware and software for Artificial Intelligence applications. Her research in NeuroSys builds on her dissertation Ethics in Action, which she defended at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands in October 2022. Her dissertation is situated at the intersection of Science & Technology Studies, Responsible Innovation, and Empirical Ethics. It combines multi-sited ethnography with socio-technical integration research (STIR) to study and shape the practical engagement with ethical tensions in scientific research. Next to her research, she organizes STIR workshops for students and researchers. She also worked as a tutor at University College Maastricht (2018–2020) and at CODE University of Applied Sciences Berlin (2020–2021).
