The idea of a general theory of law and technology is admittedly programmatic and its development a concerted interdisciplinary effort. One of the major problems facing such a theory is the lack of a shared conceptual framework for legal scholars, philosophers and engineers. In order to construct a shared conceptual framework for a general theory of law and technology, we have to ascertain and clarify the very point and purpose of our most fundamental legal and moral notions.

"Law and Technology’s" contribution to this endeavor focuses on three major problem areas which define the topics of research for "Law and Technology's" three subprojects. These are concerned with technological innovations and intellectual property rights, causality and liability in law, and vagueness and indeterminacy in law.
