Mission - Promoting Interdisciplinary Research

HumTec sees itself as a platform for promoting forms of inter- and transdisciplinary research as well as collaborative technology development. In this context, reflexive research in its various varieties plays an important role in transcending individual project experiences and ultimately providing space for the establishment of an interdisciplinary-integrated research culture at RWTH University. This facilitates the development of collaborative projects with a correspondingly demanding profile of interdisciplinarity, beyond multidisciplinarity.

The HumTec and the Profile Areas

The Profile Areas and HumTec

The eight profile areas of the RWTH University represent the interdisciplinary research fields of the university and form the core of the RWTH research landscape. In the profile areas, scientists from different disciplines and faculties work together to create the basis for socially relevant innovations with results from basic and applied research.

Members of HumTec are represented in the Steering Committees in the following profile areas:

As foreseen in the Excellence Strategy, humanities and social sciences should be integrated in all profile areas. This is done by actively involving HumTec members in the interdisciplinary research networks also in the areas of MSS, MatSE, MSE, ICT, MTE.
