Research initiative "Language Behaviour in Context" (LaBeCo)

"Language behaviour in context" (LaBeCo) is a transdisciplinary research initiative. Its point of departure is the observation that language use – and more generally human behaviour – patterns specifically across situation types reflecting social, cultural and material factors. All involved members and disciplines share the need to account for the influence of situational context on language behaviour to explain variation in their data. Existing research either neglects the situational context as a factor or examines it within the respective discipline and thus ignores insight and variables investigated in other fields. Thanks to its multidisciplinary team, LaBeCo will work towards closing this research gap.

Members

The research initiative LaBeCo includes scholars from four faculties of RWTH Aachen University – Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences , Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology , Faculty of Arts and Humanities and Faculty of Medicine – as well as eight external partners from six different universities: University of Cologne, Brandenburg University of Technology, University of Salzburg, Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and University of Hildesheim.
